After seeing more bull trout than salmon in the last two outings, it was time to rig up the ultralight spinning rod once again. Rated 1 to 4lb test, it is used frequently between April and August, but packed away in September when salmon arrive. Today’s incoming tide brought out more fishers. I counted five bar rods. None of the rods produced except a couple of bull trout. Salmon were just not coming through in numbers. Perhaps the spot that we have chosen is not ideal, since Albion test fishery has indicated great chum salmon return numbers since a week ago.

It is not uncommon for me to be using 2-3oz cage feeders just to keep the bottom so a strong tip will be required, quite often at least a 3oz tip. You will get nowhere with a 1oz tip, except for a huge bend in your rod and many missed bites.

As for a reel, I don’t think you can go wrong with a Shakespere Mach 3 XT 040. They are by no means the most expensive reels available, yet in my opinion they are top quality and you get a double handle option, spare spools and reel case. Just don’t opt for smaller match reels as after a while they just wont be able to cope with the strains of large river fishing.

Santa brought this for my son. Began using it a month ago. Now it’s too late to return..and how do you return a gift from Santa. Nothing but trouble from end-to-end. Shipping back to Spin Master in Canada is expensive and defeats the purpose of exchanging for a different product. Such a disappointment for a costly child’s rod.

we have a pretty fantastic little pro shop where i live. they sell all the tools and supplies for making your own rods. i asked the guy that same question and he told me that after the initial expense of the tools, you could expect to spend about 60-70% of what a retail rod would be. so if you wanted a 100 dollar bass pro rod, you could expect to spend 60-70 bucks on equal quality materials. same thing for a 50 dollar walmart rod, you would spend about 30-35 bucks building one of the same quality.References :

What to charge for Bass Fishing lures? I used to be into bass fishing big time. I eventually grew tired of it and sold my boat. I still have a lot like several hundred crank baits and spinner baits and thousands of soft plastic worms, lizards, etc. A large majority are brand new and some are still in original packaging. My wife and her family are planning a garage sale and I thought I might try to sell them, but I’m unsure as to what to price them at. I was thinking maybe 50 cents for the crank baits and spinner baits, and 25 cents for the bags of soft plastics. Would that be reasonable? Some of these lures cost 4 to 5 dollars new. I want to price them low enough to sell, but I don’t want to give them away either. Any bass fishermen out there with any ideas? Thanks.

I recommend you litely sand all connecting points for the joints so that the sections do not stick together because they will after sanding rub surfer’s SEX WAX for surf boards around the connecting joints (inside/outside as applicble). This rod casts about 30% further than my 12 surf rods and I use it in extreme surf with heavier weights OR when I just want to cast as far as any human being can cast a weight and a bait no kidding . I am able to cast 12 and 14 ounce weights with this rod in extreme conditions and I can cast an 8 ounce weight so far I have had other surf fishermen watch in awe. I fish for Stripers and Blues on Long Beach Island N.J. and this rod is great. Clean it after every use, treat it well and enjoy it.& 13;Put a good reel on it, big reel recommended as this is a big rod. I purchased this rod/reel combo for the convenience of having an outfit that would fit inside my checked baggage when I travel on airlines. The initial performance was good; I used it to catch a dozen or so rainbow trout while fishing in the Donner Lake region of California. The padded bag survived the trip quite well, and storage is more than adequate. The only flaw I encountered was some loosening of the rod sections after several casts. If you don’t pause to push everything in tightly periodically, the rod tip (or even the whole rod) will separate and get flung into the lake with your lure.
