The Pike fishing in and around Longford is still doing well despite all the rain and heavy winds, the upper Shannon has produced some nice Pike to trolled lures and dead baits. On a sad note it has come to light that person/s have been setting lines weigh down with lead, attached to the line are many hooks baited with worms. As the picture shows a eel has taken one and after inspection of the small Pike mouth it was found that the Pike had taken a Perch that had been caught by the worm, yes you guessed it both the Pike and eel were dead, caused by stress. These acts are not only illegal they are dangerous to all forms of wild life along the river banks and must stop. Please contact your local IFI office or ring 1890 347424 to report any illegal fishing.

The objective of Special Areas of Conservation designation is to protect certain vulnerable species and there habitats. On a brighter note reports from the Foyle indicate fresh fish have entered the system, mostly spring fish, the Drowse has seen Grilse entering the river over the past week or so and it’s been four years since we witnessed the first decent runs of fish to the Mourne post the drift net buy out. Given good spawning and survival this could be the year!!

30/4/11 Renowned Trout Angler Mr Charlie Stuart was in good form again while drifting by the Grey Rock, when my Noble salmon took Charlie’s favourite fly the Bumble, and I believe in the lobster Bar last night he was told by a renowned Gillie that he wont repeat that for a long time, well I can tell you Charlie was one happy Angler with his second 7lbs plus Salmon in less than 24 hours. Wind SE then Veered S light with bright sunshine throughout the day. Amount of rainfall in the last 24 hours 0.1mm, max air temperature 19.8c.

The last event was very well attended and we were very grateful to the owners and the five highly skilled and qualified GAIA Association of Professional Game Angling Instructors (APGAI) and Federation of fly fishers members who volunteered and gave their time and expertise free to ensure the day was a wonderful success. The feedback we received from the day was great and very encouraging.

Scott Johnson, PR director, shares, ‘The ladies love Spanish Peaks because it is such a great place for them and their families. The kids’ programs in the summer months are phenomenal; Moms know their kids are safe, engaged in physical activities that strengthen their bodies as well as their minds and they are having a blast doing it. In fact, there is so much for the family to do! Women love the poolside cocktail classes and the cooking classes as much as they love the yoga on the deck and golf clinics just for girls.’

Missouri River: The Missouri is much like the rest of the waters around the state, inconsistent. The nymphing is getting better, but the water is still higher than normal for this time of the year 7,140 cfs (2,000 cfs higher than normal). Nymphing is a daily puzzle between flies and water depth seems it’s between sow bugs and bright flies or baetis and midges. The streamer guys are hit and miss, but a few nice fish are a pretty sweet day, right?

No degree of hunger whetted our appetite for picture-taking (it was already midday, the weather sunny and lacking the cool breeze it gifted us the day before). We expected long lines and all it was a Saturday afternoon anyway. Lunch was fish burgers, fries and lemon Coke, while the scent of pancakes and cotton candy pervaded everywhere. If you're an adult who went to Disneyland for death-defying rides, the kid-centric offerings aren't simply for you. Plan more time for Ocean Park instead. But if you went there to satisfy your life-long dreams of taking photos with Mickey and getting drenched in fantasyland things (gorgeous Tinkerbell, High School Musical parades, 4D shows, raft cruises in a man-made river, magical fireworks, and overpriced souvenirs), you came to the right place. The HK site, by the way, is the smallest Disneyland in the world.

My all time favorite is a timber tiger. they are difficult to find but still out there. Great for fishing structure and very versatile. Next would be a spinner. I prefer brass blades and the skirt color always depends on environmental factors. Third .a hula pop. Especially at night. Fourth is a jig. Again color has may variables. Last is a stick bait or a bandit. Good luck!!

If you don't want to be locked into fishing for just one or two kinds of fish, then Fairfield Lake and Fairfield Lake State Park may be what you're looking for. You can fish for introduced redfish, hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass and catfish, or even try your hand at bowfishing for the delicious, albeit unwelcome, African import, tilapia. The stocking of saltwater redfish no longer is considered experimental, as Fairfield produces excellent fishing for reds in the 10- to 15-pound class. Hybrid stripers often are caught by redfish anglers while trolling or drifting with live bait. Largemouth bass fishing also is excellent, with aquatic vegetation and shoreline reed beds providing habitat. Fairfield is one of the most attractive park and lake combinations in Texas, with pine and hardwood shorelines and clear water that is kept warmer than normal because of circulation through a generating plant across the lake from the park. The park is located just east of Fairfield in Freestone County.

I told Emily to stop with the bananas and let's go, now Jessie got in and we closed the door and drove away, with another three vehicles that just arrived, each with three or more people getting out to inquire about what was going on. While it might have been fine to hang out, we got permission from the LC1 to go and took advantage of that was the window was open.

Houghton Lake: Still has good ice. Walleye season is closed however bluegills were starting to hit along the weedbeds on the south shore. Perch were starting to bite and some big crappie were caught near the Cut River.

Fishing Rivers Inlet

I try to appear in control. Erin’s a touch trepidatious about this trip. Fishing Rivers Inlet, as we had in ’08, is easy by comparison. Why? Calm waters, for one, make the nervous-bellied among us more comfortable; and we had been staying at Oak Bay Marine Group’s King Salmon Resort a land based lodge with roomy cabins and walking paths to stretch your legs.

Halibut and ling cod are always cruising the depths, but if, like me and Erin, you’re less-than-infatuated with deepwater jigging with gear that’s tantamount to a tow truck, you can limit out on chickens off Cohoe Point by lowering your salmon gear to 50 or 60 pulls. There really is no bad time to fish the Haida Gwaii.
