The dissolved oxygen levels at Bull Shoals dropped below 6 ppm back on August 9th at which time the vacuum breakers were blocked open. Although no further actions have been taken at Bull Shoals, the DO readings continue to stay below 6ppm and at times have dropped into the mid to upper 4′s. I will be going out later this week on Bull Shoals to determine if stocking restrictions are needed.

The chalk stream rivers of Southern England are the cradle of fly fishing and rightly hold an unrivalled place in fly fishing. The gin clear waters run through what are still some of the most unspoiled water meadows, farmland and countryside in Britain. The brown trout holds sway as the ultimate quarry in these rivers, where dry fly fishing remains the supreme method of out-witting our native fish.

Like I previously mentioned the rod needs to be strong. Most suitable rods will be described by the maufacturer as heavy feeder rods. Ideally it will have a number of different sized quiver tips allowing you to choose the most suitable tip for the current conditions, the stronger the tide the heavier the tip. It is not uncommon for me to be using 2-3oz cage feeders just to keep the bottom so a strong tip will be required, quite often at least a 3oz tip. You will get nowhere with a 1oz tip, except for a huge bend in your rod and many missed bites.

To top it off, for your evening meal you can moor up at one of the pet friendly pubs along the riverside or walk into the towns for even more choice. A few examples of pet friendly pubs are: The Red Lion in Coltishall, Bridge Inn in Acle and Bernley Marshes in Great Yarmouth.

Thanks for bringing the fishing gear. All the kids had a great time.I still think the two old geezers who were there all the time didn& 39;t actually bait their hooks. Just getting away from the missus, I only saw them get one fish all week.

Amazingly the Girvan catchment missed the rain today and the river remained low. Work on the upper fish pass has been progressing well, the side baulks are complete and water is flowing down the pass.

I honestly couldn’t discover a lot bad with the Exceler 3500 reel. The gearing and line lay are superb for a mid-range priced fishing reel (around 60.00). I too like that the gear ratio is under 5:1. Fishermen who employ this reel can anticipate to grow to be extremely fond of it. They particularly will be keen on its flexibility, particularly for river trout spinning and lake fishing for bass, pike and perch. Look at fitting it on a light carbon rod that has fast action and a casting power within 20 and 50 grams. This is a fantastic piece of coarse fishing tackle!

Anticipate to get plenty of strength from the Exceler 3500 reel since it has been purposely geared down to deliver it. The plastic parts of the fishing reel are manufactured from ABS. ABS is a sort of composite plastic which is very sturdy. In reality, it’s widely applied to construct the housings of appliances and the bodies of automobiles. The spool is gigantic, which assists deliver accurate casts and dependable crank rates. The fishing reel also offers a machine-cut handle, a cast lock mechanism and boundless anti-reverse, all of which add to its excellent performance. Fishing River Cherwell

I set off at 5:30 AM Thursday morning and had managed to get a guest ticket for one river on Thursday night courtesy of a local club member Paul Monaghan and one for Friday on another river, courtesy of my fellow ABF stalwart Paul Whiteing, he of fancy pants beardy centrepin casting fame. This was despite not finding out about the trip until Wednesday, so lads, thanks very much.

It certainly is Tom and if I lived where you do I’d be there all the time. As for writing a cheque, I wasn’t aware that you owed me money, thanks for being so honest.

Fishing River Walleyes

You ever heard that rumor about Montana being Trout Country? Well, I guess it’s true, sort of, at least in the collective public consciousness. In reality, though, Montana is also Walleye Country.

Our first trip of the year to Lake Oahe began Tuesday around four AM, when I made the six hour trip North with Team Outdoorsmen Adventures member Bill Christensen, Hartington, NE. and his grandson Carson, Becker.

We didn’t have much time at Frances, less than two full days, but we managed to scare up a few walleyes, but interestingly, we also caught a lot of perch, and some very nice ones, while targeting walleyes.

Trout Fishing River Rigs

A number of people are calling and asking if the river is fishable. Yes, the river is fishable, and the fishing is quite good. That should be qualified with this statement: ‘If you use a guide.’ The guides know how to keep the boat on the seams where the fish are holding; they know the correct amount of lead to use (a lot) and the right strike indicator; and they know what flies to use depending on what part of the river they are fishing. Using a guide can make a huge difference as to whether you view the quality of fishing as outstanding or lousy. The river is big and intimidating right now. Most of the fishing is boat fishing, although there are still some wade-fishing hotspots where the fish are congregated.

You weren’t kidding about the sucker! I usually get the same kinda ribb’n from my Uncle when that happens. Looks like you caught the flow rates just right, I see they bumped them to 400 cfs shortly after you left. Did you Michael fish below the bridge in your 8 day marathon? Dry Fly fishing on the McCloud River has been outstanding as midday hatches of Pale Morning Duns and Large Drakes, including Green Drakes have big bows looking up. Some Salmonflies and early Goldenstones are out and about and fish are beginning to take them on the surface as well. Local guides, Craig Nielsen, Alan Blankenship, Rick Cox, Wayne Eng, and Fred Gordon have treated folks to some outstanding days and exceptional fish as a result of the bounty. The flows remain low, very clear and stable, well below the norm, particularly for a high water year and may not last with a large snowpack still poised. The weather forecast is calling for some warmer, stable weather in the coming week, so we recommend you get here now to enjoy the magic while it lasts!

Bob, fishing with Craig caught all his fish on the McCloud on a dry fly rig including several in the upper teens. Lucky Lew always manages to be in the right place at the right time. While most of the fish in the morning were on the smaller size, the mayfly hatch in the afternoon saw all the big heads up and Bob took full advantage, getting his dry fly game going in a big way. What a magical day on a magical river!
